Quick Facts

  • Near Nokomis
  • Secluded Barrier Island
  • Between Sarasota Bay and The Gulf of Mexico

An eight mile long barrier island in Sarasota County, Casey Key sits between Sarasota Bay and the Gulf of Mexico.  The only public beach access is near the Southern tip of the island, the remainder of the island is considered private estates.  Casey Key is connected to the mainland by Blackburn Bridge and one winding, canopied road bisects the island. Places to stop along Casey Key Road are limited, with the occasional glimpse of mansions and old Florida Cracker  houses.  One of these mansions belongs to author, Stephen King, who was inspired to write the novel, Duma Key from his winters here. Nokomis Beach is available for public access with free parking, showers and a concession stand.  Travel to the South end of the island for fishing, boat launches and a glimpse of the occasional dolphin pod.
