Palm Island & Little Gasparilla

Palm Island & Little Gasparilla

  • Island
  • Only Accessible By Boat
  • No Bridges
  • No Highrises

Charlotte County is home to beautiful Don Pedro Island.  Accessible only by boat Don Pedro is separated from Rotonda West by a narrow channel. Historically, Don Pedro, Little Gasparilla, Knight Island and Thornton Key were part of an archipelago of small islands.  Due to beach re-nourishment projects they are now connected by a thin strip of land and resemble one island.  Much of Don Pedro Island is now owned by Palm Bay Resort which offers the only restaurant on Don Pedro along with a ferry that will transport you to the resort for a fee.  Don Pedro has a state park located on the north side of the island with docking for boats and access to the beautiful unspoiled beach.  Development has increased on Don Pedro Island, but it remains a haven for native Florida wildlife and a destination for beachcombers and shell collectors.

Bordered by the Gulf of Mexico on the West, Little Gasparilla Island is joined to Don Pedro by a thin strip of land and mangroves.  The 7 miles of unspoiled beaches are accessible only by boat.  There are no bridges, cars, seawalls or high rises.  The beaches are home to nesting sea turtles and native Florida birds with the surrounding waters offering sanctuary for dolphin pods and manatees.
